The Trickle Effect

FootprintsThis morning during my quiet time with God, I was sitting with Him and just being quiet in my thoughts and drinking my coffee. I was looking at the footprints on my cup and rubbed my fingers over them and realized how many times God has carried me during the rough times in my life and couldn’t help but feel so blessed and close to God.  I must admit, I haven’t always felt this close to God and spending quiet time with Him was not a priority for me and years ago, hardly ever.

Lately though, I have been able to recognize His presence and how all of the puzzle pieces are starting to come together. So often when times get hard, we can’t understand why. Why would God let this happen? Our lives touch so many different people every day of our life and the trickle effect is way beyond our comprehension. It isn’t always just about us and what we need every second of the day. People come into our lives and go out of lives for a reason. Some only stay for a season and a purpose and when that purpose is achieved, or when we are no longer benefitting from that relationship, God steps in and what we thought was our plan takes a turn that we didn’t expect. As much as we want things to happen in our timeframe, it never will. God is the one in control.

He knows when we need a break and if we don’t take that break, He will step in and take control. You might come down with the flu and be forced to take a week off and doFootprints1 absolutely nothing except lay in bed. You might have a minor freak accident and twist your ankle or even break a leg and be layed up for days or weeks at a time. It is important for us to realize that that even this was His Will. During that time, He is making you stronger ,whether you realize it or not. Later though, if you are fortunate enough, you too will start to see the puzzle pieces come together and these difficult times will begin to resonate with you how they turned out for the better in some weird way. It could be as simple as the fact that while you were layed up, you had the time to read a book, or watch a movie that truly impacted you in some way that led to a change in your mindset. Maybe while sitting in the doctors office, you got to talking to the person next to you, and something you said to them impacted their day and led to a change within them. It could have even just been a smile or a kind word that transpired and you will never know how you changed that person’s life. Everyone has a story to tell and you would never know just by looking at them what challenge they are facing. Maybe that person was contemplating ending their life, but that kind gesture of simply holding the door open for them and smiling changed their mind.  It could be that simple.

When we learn to look for the positive in every situation, eventually we can find something positive even if that something is as small as a mustard seed.  That terrible storm, may have torn your world apart and you can’t understand why, but you must have faith that something positive transpired somewhere.  If you can’t think of any way possible that something positive happened for you, maybe you are right. That’s when we have to look at the bigger picture and remember it is the chain reaction of events and other people involved who were impacted.  I can almost guarantee you that somewhere in that chain reaction someone was impacted by something positive and we just won’t know until we meet our maker and fully understand the why’s behind our lives and everyone our lives touched!

For better or worse, we have to have faith and believe that everything happens for a reason and everyone matters to God. After all, we are His children and He wants the best for us all!
