God Lives In Us

Untitled

Reaching out to God comes easy when we are going through tough times, because we realize we need His help more than ever.  In our ordinary days, when things are going smoothly though, we tend to let Him slip further away from the forefront of our minds. If we can train ourselves to always remember God, just imagine how much better our days could go every single day.

This is something that I plan to work on more this year. When I get up in the morning the first thing I do is grab my coffee and then sit down in what I call my ‘quiet chair’ and spend time with God reading my devotionals and journaling with God. This part comes easy to me. It’s the middle of the day and those ordinary moments that come more difficult for me. God has been pushing me lately to come to Him more and to share more by sharing my stories.

Currently, I am listening to an Audible Book, “Atomic Habits”, and it is helping me to create better habits for myself. One of these habits I am working on now is to recognize God more throughout the day. So I now have a cross hanging from my rearview mirror in my car that reminds me to pray to God while I’m driving and ask for His protection.  I also have a picture of Jesus hanging in my room so that I can see Him from my quite chair as that helps me visualize Him and feel His presence more. When the Holy Spirit asked me to give to those in need, I felt compelled to do just that. I put together a grab bag of some essentials (like a new toothbrush, a new pair of socks, a gift card and a little spiritual note and my favorite verse.) It felt so good to hand it out for the first time.

That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith.” —Ephesians 3:17

Update: The above post has been sitting in my drafts since 2019. I just came acrossed it today and thought I should release it, but I now have to add that after making these habit changes, I have come so much closer to God. He walked me through, step-by-step, a separation and divorce which was the hardest decision of my life. After spending time with just God contemplating life and my decision, He then led me on another journey of finding love again, which led to a major move to Georgia. He has shown me so many signs of his presence in this journey that I could and probably will write another book. The most recent chapter in this journey is finding our new church and a group where we have become ‘Rooted’ to God and this amazing group of believers we now call our Rooted Family.

My story is far from over and I can’t wait to see where else He leads me. I’m curious though, where are you and God in your life now? Are you struggling to find your way, or is He leading you every step of the way? If you are struggling, just know He is there, all you have to do is reach out and ask Him to forgive your sins and believe that He gave His life for you. The holy spirit is yours for the taking. Ask Him to live inside of you, for you, with you and to lead you to do His Will. Spend time with Him everyday and take the extra time to Be Still and Listen!

Rooted with God

Where do I start…..

Last January we moved to Grovetown, GA to be closer to my mom. We were able to keep our same jobs, have a beautiful home, and mom lives right around the corner. We were living our best life, but something was missing. We hadn’t been inside a church since before Covid when we were living in Maryland. Now that we were settled and things seemed to be easing up, we decided it was time to find a local church that we could call home so I started doing some research. We wanted a church with a similar feel and message that was warm and welcoming and I must say my research paid off big time! Not only do we call this church home, we now have an extended family. We call it our “Rooted Family”.

On January 13th we started this group series called “Rooted” where a group of us meet once a week for 12 weeks and work through a workbook together getting rooted in God’s word and learn how to be a Christian and what all of that means. This class has changed the lives of each and every one of us and we have all bonded together in a way that has not only strengthened our relationships, but built a foundation that will last a lifetime.

If you ever have the opportunity to participate in this series, I highly encourage you to do so. You will become spiritually rooted to God. You will learn things about yourself, you didn’t realize. You will become a better person. You will become the person God created you to be. You will have a clearer understanding of your pupose and His will. As you work through this experience, you will be witnessing the creation of ‘your story’ and a transformation where you realize you are enough. You are strong. You are worthy. You are loved. You are God’s child, and all of your sins are forgiven. God wants the best for us and He is always working to bring us closer to Him. Follow His lead and I pray it leads you to being Rooted as well!
