We Hurt When Our Children Hurt

As parents we never want to see our children in pain and we would do just about anything to take their pain away if we could. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. We all have lessons to learn and battles to face. We had to learn the hard way and so do our children. The best thing we can do is continually remind them to turn to God for guidance and support. Afterall, we are all God’s children and He doesn’t want to see us in pain either. He wants us to go to Him with all of our fears and worries. He wants us to be close to Him. He loves us so much that He took on our sins and died to save us all. Then He gave us the Holy Spirit to protect us and guide us all the days of our lives. All we have to do is believe and trust in Him.

This Bible verse pretty much says it all. For when I look back on the trials and tribulations I have experienced in my life, I can recognize the lessons I learned. I can see how strong I have grown as a result of my sufferings. During those dark hours in my life, I now know that God was with me. He made His presence known to me through the many signs I’ve received. These signs give me Peace knowing that God is always with me and that He does want the best for me.

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” ~ Romans 5: 3-5

Look back at some of your own trials and tribulations. Can you recognize where God was during those times and what you learned in the process? I’m sure you are much stronger too as a result. Was it easy, no way. Do you want your children to go through what you had to endure? Of course not! How many times have you said, “Learn from my mistakes.”?

We all want what is best for our children and want to see them happy. I pray everyday that my children are talking with God daily and learn to recognize their own signs from God. I pray that they become comfortable enough with sharing these signs with others because that is how we can help each other. Being vulnerable is how we learn and grow and realize that we are not alone. We are all human. We all make mistakes. We all feel pain and sorrow, but we can overcome our fears when we turn to God and give Him our burdens.

Stay On The Tracks

There are times in our life when the path ahead is a blur. The fog sets in and we are blinded by confusion, frustration, and pain that hurts so deep we can not understand tracks where we are supposed to turn. I’ve felt this first hand, and I’m sure you have too. Sometimes God has to take us to our knees and break us before we remember that only He knows the way. It’s during our darkest hour where we turn to God and talk to Him, begging for His help because we know we can’t move forward without Him. What we need to remember during our conversations with God, is to take the time to listen to what He has to say to us.

It’s not a one way conversation. You might think it is all about you, but God knows the big picture and loves each and every one of us and wants the best for all of us. He loves us unconditionally, but He wants us to turn to Him, talk with Him, take the extra time to hear His soft voice directing your path. He wants us to ask Him for what we want and to believe it is on its way – if it is His Will! “If it is His Will” is the key point to remember here and where it gets really tough.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11-13

What we want, is not always His Will! Like I said, only He knows the big picture and how our desire will effect everyone and everything. So, when our desire is not His Will, we need to understand there is a reason and even though we may be temporarily suffering, we are also becoming stronger individuals when we rely on God’s love to get us through. For He is always with us guiding us, protecting us, and at times like this, even carrying us!

Close your eyes, take a deep breath and reach out for His hand. Imagine His embrace. Feel His strength embrace you while you take another deep breath and open your eyes slowly. You will feel His peace as your shoulders drop and know you are loved! Practice this as much as you need and the fog will lift. The steps ahead will seem easier to take. Just keep your feet on the tracks that God has placed in front of you! He is giving you strength, endurance, character, hope, and eventually to a place of peace knowing that His Will is the best for everyone!

Look back at the struggles you have already lived through in your lifetime. He was there with you then. You survived, and you will this time as well!

“Signs of a Life” – Part VI

When times get tough and I need to clear my head, I love to jump in the car and just drive. I play my spiritual playlist pretty loudly, and have been known to bang on the steering wheel a lot! I’m always looking for signs from God while I’m driving too. Heart shaped clouds and crosses show up pretty often. Even when they don’t though, God is with me always.

I remember not too long ago making one of the toughest decisions of my life. I wasn’t quite to a place of peace with this decision, and I think that is why it was so difficult. I had planned to take the road that many of us married couples take when things aren’t working out and decide to walk away. I had been at this point in my mind before many times, but never acted on it because of how badly I wanted it to work out. I didn’t believe my husband would make the change that he needed to make for his health and our marriage, but he did give it a try so I felt I owed it to both of us to give it yet one more try. Yet, I had heard before that this time would be different. I was so torn apart. Driving down the road talking with God and doubting this decision and trying to hear God’s voice telling me what to do. I wasn’t hearing anything, so I decided I was going to end it once and for all.

It was at that point that God’s voice spoke up! He told me to give it one more try. He also told me how to present this opportunity in conversation. God gave me the words to say. God gave me the strength to speak His Words. God gave me Hope. God gave us a second chance. God gave us a second chance.

Unfortunately, despite the desire and the attempt, it didn’t last two weeks. This confused me even more. After all, if this was God’s plan and He spoke the words to me to give it one more try. Why then did it not work out? I’m sure many of you run into situations like this yourself. Those unanswered prayers. Why God? Why did you have me take this road if you knew it wasn’t going to work?

Many people give up on God at times like this. I was able to look for the good. There is always good in everything that God has planned. Yes, sometimes, even the unanswered prayers are God’s greatest gift. I love that song by Garth Brooks! In my situation, God gave us the opportunity to realize that no matter how hard we try, somethings we can not change or are willing to change. God gave us the ability to know in our hearts that we gave it our all. Had we not taken that one last chance to make it right, we would have wondered what would have happened if we had tried.

God gave us Peace!

Then the struggle became real and God was there too giving us both strength to get through the storm that tore us apart. Behind every cloud though, there are blue skies. In life we will always have tough decisions we have to make. I urge you to turn to God always in Faith that He will make the path clear. Ask for His guidance and His Will to be done! Listen for that small soft voice in your head and follow His lead! With God you can’t go wrong!

Learn To Recognize Your Triggers

“Signs of a Life” – Part IV

As you can imagine, hearing the nurse call for the paddles and being in the hospital for 10 nights was pretty traumatic. I wasn’t home for long before my doctor recommended I find someone to talk with to help me sort through my stress and anxiety. The first thing she wanted me to come to terms with was recognizing my trigger points. I didn’t know what a trigger point was until much later, but once I learned the meaning behind it, I quickly knew what my trigger was. The way it was explained to me is that it is the first feeling you have of anxiety. For example, you are sitting quietly in the living room reading a book and someone in the kitchen drops a frying pan or shatters a glass. It’s that feeling right then and there that you feel. What is it for you? Where do you feel it? Do you feel a tightness in your chest? Or is it a sinking feeling in your stomach. How do you react? What do you do? Think about it for a second and the next time that happens pay close attention and you will learn with your trigger is.

For me, I feel a tightness in my chest and when I am really stressed I then find myself rubbing my hand over my chest to help calm myself. I do this sometimes without even realizing it. When I do, I do eventual realize I am now able to recognize this as my trigger and a sign of anxiety that I need to deal with immediately. I then just start breathing deeply and talk to myself and God to get reassurance from Him that everything will be okay. Positive words and prayers of affirmation is the first thing I do. I close my eyes and quiet the room and try to feel the presence of God’s embrace. God has told me repeatedly to ‘Be Still’. I’ve taken this to simply mean, to Be Still in his presence, to stop striving for my will, and start embracing His Will and plan for my life. For Only God knows our next move and what is best for us! He wants us to live an abundant life.

“Be still and know that I am God,” ~ Psalm 46:10

As time has gone by, this practice is all I really need to follow in order to calm myself and quiet my anxieties, but there was a time when this was not enough. There are other ways to handle our stress and I’ll be sharing next several ways I learned to deal with mine and hope that it will help you!

“Signs of a Life” – Part II

As I heard the nurse calling for the paddles, I remember screaming in my head, “God, I’m not ready to die!” The next thing I remember is grabbing at my face because I couldn’t breathe. As I came to, my nurse was getting off of me and so many people were in my room in a panic of chaos. It was then I realized I did not die, but now things really got serious and things didn’t look so good!

Over the next several days I was watched around the clock and I realized that God definitely had a plan for me. Jeremiah 29:11 eventually became a Sign from God and my favorite verse in the Bible.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

While God never promised us life would be easy, He did say He would be right there with us guiding us and holding us by our right hand. He did this for me that I am certain. There are times in life when God just has to take control. He realizes we need a break and sometimes forces us to do so! That’s what He did for me and I will be forever grateful.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10

Not only did I change through self-development, but my experience also helped change the course of how leadership at my job manages their projects and their teams now. If my experience helped even just one other person, it was all worth it! Since then, I am no longer intimated by anyone. I take life as it comes and know that God always has a better plan than I do. His timing is all that matters. If something doesn’t work out the way I planned, I am thankful that His plan will be much greater than I ever imagined. Trust me, I’m human and sometimes it does take me a little while to swallow my disappointment, but it doesn’t take long before God shows His hand and I am moving forward with much anticipation and excitement of what comes next in this journey with Him by my side!

Learn to Look For the Signs

When you love someone enough to let them go in peace, it can be very hard to make such a decision. Whether that someone is a person you loved dearly, or man’s best friend who has been by your side through thick and thin for 14 years, making the decision to let them go because you know it is for their best is one of the hardest things you can do. This year I have had to make both of these decisions and both were extremely hard!

Just the other day, my son and I had to make the decision to put down our best dog ever! This poor dog was given away by someone walking through the Mall offering this adorable little puppy a free home. My son’s friend took the dog and kept her for a few days while he was in college until he realized he couldn’t possibly care for this dog in a dorm. That’s when my son decided to bring her home, and at 2am in the morning, dropped this adorable little puppy on my bed and said, “look what I brought home”.

Who knows where she would have wound up had God not had a plan to bring her into our life. She gave us all so much love and joy. She was always there by my side and it didn’t matter how many times I went up and down the steps, she was right there! When I moved into my own townhome recently, I went back to get her for a visit and decided I was going to keep her with me so that she could have some peace in her old age until it was her time. Just three weeks ago, the vet thought she would have another two years. And that’s when we both started to Rally and were so happy together. We started taking walks and enjoying each other’s company even so much more until her Rally was up. What a difference a day made to her tired old body!

Deciding to let her go was very painful, but you don’t want to see them suffer. Thanking God that we have the ability to put our animals out of their pain and suffering and wishing we could do the same for those we love who are suffering in their last days. It only seems fair, but I will stop at that because I could go on and on.

What I really want to share with you though is just how amazing it is when you have God in your life and have a relationship with Him that you are continually building on. It’s like the closer you become to God, the more He does for you. The more you recognize His presence. The more you recognize Signs from God. You learn more all the time how to be still and listen for His soft voice. You feel His presence and you just know that all is going to be ok because you have Faith in Him and through His Holy Spirit that He will guide us on the path that is right. Faith that should we stray the wrong way, He will still work it out for the betterment of all.

Then one day you sit back and you are able to see the puzzle pieces come together and just how God worked it out even when you thought it was supposed to happen another way at the time. Even though we may fight for what we want, if it is not God’s plan, it will not happen! God has perfect timing and the death of my beloved Dixie was a perfect timing as well. And as I sit and look at this picture my son just posted on Facebook, it is clear as day to me that God is with Dixie and she is happy once again and is still with us. The sun shining down through the trees with the Cross so bright, and then the orb in the bottom of the picture is where I can see Dixie’s eye is several different phases.

You may not be able to see what I see, but it is these signs that we all receive and see differently. We just have to be open to seeing them. God’s Signs are everywhere. I find them in the clouds, the sun, the wind, the rain, and I’m always looking for crosses and hearts everywhere. Today, it was this picture!

GET OUT OF THE BACK ROW!

Get out of your comfort zone. Get out of the boat, and dance on water with God!

Last night at Bible Study, I met an amazing leader and I know that she will play a role in my success in making my biggest dream come true! In fact, she already has! She and I have alot in common and I know once we find time to meet and get to know each other, the similarities will grow. How do I know this? God brought her into my life for a reason!

You see, the first day my best friend and I decided to check out this new Church called Lifepoint, and we sat in the audience in awe, the music and the people drew us both in. I felt the music in my very soul, I felt His presence in my heart and felt as if my heart was beating stronger as a result. I knew in that moment that this Church would become a part of me. I told my friend, Karen, that one day I will be standing on that stage.

This is basically the same message that this amazing leader spoke about last night! She talked about how she sat in the back row of this very same church when God spoke to her and gave her the same dream and she followed His every move to be that leader on stage speaking for God! I had to meet her! I didn’t hesitate, not even for one second, to walk up to her and introduce myself. Years ago, I never would have done such a thing. I was too shy, too intimidated, too scared. But ever since God directed me and placed that desire in my heart to write my first book, “Signs from God”, He has constantly urged me to get out of my comfort zone and put my faith in Him! I’ve taken that chance every time and I know that one day, I too, will be on that stage dancing with God!

Everyone has a life to live; everyone has a job to do in this life. So live your life, but take some time to really think about what your purpose is in this life. How can you help other people? How can you help spread God’s Love? Is it through healing? Is it through your music? Is it through teaching? Is it through serving? There are so many different ways we can do God’s work. Spend time with God and He will lead you. Ask for His help and He will guide you. Believe in His timing and know that He is with you and loves you unconditionally, all the time. He will help you get out of your comfort zone. He will bring the people into your life, at the right time, to ensure you have everything you need to be successful. God wants you to step out of that boat; out of your comfort zone; away from safety, and put your trust in Him! He not only wants you to walk on water like Peter, He wants us to Dance on Water with Him!

Start speaking life and purpose so that you feel it in your soul! You are meant to make a difference in this lifetime! With God’s help you can do anything you set your mind to! Here’s a picture I had taken after a Young Living conference when I knew that one day I would be up on a stage, bigger than this one, speaking about stress, anxiety, depression, and Miracles and how Young Living and the Lord changed my life!

Let Go and Let God!

Everyone has there own way of praying and talking with God, and one of my favorite ways to communicate with God is through Journaling. This morning as I was sitting in my quiet place at the lake, I started thanking Him for getting me to the Lake this weekend and for the rain we heard as we were lying in bed before we got up. It was as if God were raining down on us and the peace I felt was so comforting. I then started thanking Him for his presence in my life and in that moment. I’ve been struggling lately with letting go of worries and asked Him to help me trust Him and not worry about anything or anyone else for my peace. It was then that it dawned on me, that God has my back and all I need to do is turn it over to Him and stop stressing about the things that I cannot change or control. Then the phrase ‘Let Go and Let God’ entered my mind. I knew this all along, shoot I tell other people, so why do I need to be reminded all the time? I guess it is always easier when you are living in that moment, but now whenever I start to regress in my worries, I will remember and repeat this phrase, “Let Go and Let God”!

After all, God is the only one in control of our lives and it is in His timing when we will recognize the rewards and all of the puzzle pieces of life will fit together and we will realize the importance of His timing!
